ESCARPMENT WATCHDOG GROUP CELEBRATES 20TH ANNIVERSARY OF NIAGARA ESCARPMENT PLAN
Guest Speaker Corwin Cambray, Niagara Region Planning Commissioner, to Reflect on Niagara Escarpment Protection over the Decades

The public is invited to a free meeting -- the annual general meeting of the Coalition on the Niagara Escarpment -- on Sunday, June 12, 2005, 11 a.m. - 1 p.m., at the Honeywood Arena in Honeywood (northeast of Shelburne). We are celebrating the 20th anniversary of the passage by the Ontario Cabinet of the Niagara Escarpment Plan, approved on precisely June 12, 1985.

We are pleased to have as special guest speaker Corwin Cambray, a member of the 1967-68 team that produced the Niagara Escarpment Study -- which ultimately led to passage of the Niagara Escarpment Plan. Since Mr. Cambray has been Commissioner of Planning and Development for Niagara Region for many years, he will be able to bring insights about the Niagara Escarpment Plan from the point of view of someone with a role in ensuring that the Plan is implemented.

Light refreshments will follow Mr. Cambray's talk, after which will be the business portion of the annual meeting.

The Coalition on the Niagara Escarpment Plan (CONE) was founded in 1978 and now represents 32 member organizations interested in protection of the Niagara Escarpment. CONE has worked consistently for the protection of the Escarpment and its many values to Ontario society through public education, advocacy, and monitoring of development along the Escarpment.
