GABP's primary goal was accomplished in 1999, adoption of an official plan that would balance the competing needs of the county's main economic sectors (agriculture, tourism, recreation, forestry and light industry) without compromising the natural environment and the cost of providing services. The Niagara Escarpment Planning Area comprises more than 14% of Grey County and 35% of the County is within 10km of the Plan Area.
