by Len Gertler
310 pages, Softcover, 6 x 9 inches
Published by the Department of Geography, University of Waterloo, 2005 (ISBN 0-921083-70-X)

Radical Rumblings are the memoirs of Len Gertler, widely lauded as the "father" of Niagara Escarpment protection. Volume 1 covers his professional life from the age of 28 in 1951 to the age of 51 in 1974.
It was during this period that Gertler co-ordinated the Niagara Escarpment Study, commissioned by then-Premier John Robarts. This study lead to the passing of the Niagara Escarpment Planning
and Development Act in 1973 and the Niagara Escarpment Plan in 1985. In the book Gertler makes planning come alive, interweaving the planning principles, politics and people that give us the city, town and regional plans we have today.Go to order
